Happy New Year!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year!

In 2013 we made and delivered 110 quilts, 61 quilted tote bags, 30 preemie quilts, and 6 pillowcases to AAMC, the Lighthouse Homeless Prevention Center, Walk the Walk Foundation, Oklahoma tornado victims, Chrysalis House, Arden House, and Northern Virginia Nursing Students Association.

Thank you all so much for all your generosity this past year donating your time, talents and fabric to help children in need!
45 quilted tote bags mailed to Virginia for the Children's National Medical Center in DC!
We cleaned out our quilt supply in December and need to start stocking up for a delivery! I will be calling around to different organizations to see where the biggest need is soon.

We are going "Back to the Basics" this month. For those of you who haven't been to a workshop in a while and are rusty or if you need some instruction, I will be demonstrating the basics of how to take one of our kits and sew a quilt top together.

Feel free to come, sew, chat and just enjoy the day making a special gift for a child in need! Please bring your sewing machine, supplies and a lunch if you desire. I will bring fruit and bagels.

Where: Bay Area Community Church, room 223 (or the blue room, I will have a sign posted telling what room number)
When: Saturday, January 18th from 10:30 am - 1:30 pm
Hope to see you there!

September/October Workshops

We had two workshops in the past three weeks!! At the September workshop, Jasmine, Jade and Aryanna  came out and put together cute quilt tops! They are our home schoolers who are improving on their quilting skills every month!! Becca was also there and we dug into our QFK scrap pile and cut up 6 1/2" squares to make more I Spy quilts. Becca also donated four adorable quilts!!  Thank you!

On Saturday, we had our October Workshop with Julie, an avid sewer but new to QFK. Julie made two darling quilted tote bags that we are donating in December. Becca came and dropped off three beautiful quilts and grabbed more kits to work on this next month. Thanks to all of you who came out!!!

September Workshop Cancelled

We are cancelling our workshop for Saturday, September 21st. There is a big event at the church and it got bigger so they need our room. We may try and get the room for the 28th if people can make it out on the day (please, let me know) otherwise we will meet again next month.
Thanks for understanding!

Christmas Projects!

We are planning on distributing quilts to the Walk the Walk Foundation for their Walk of Christmas Drive in December. Walk the Walk Foundation has teamed up with Anne Arundel County's Holiday Sharing Program who receive names of children from the Department of Social Services.  We would love to have lap size quilts for children and teens for this event! We will be making up quilt kits next week!! If you would like a kit please let us know or join our next workshop.

We also have a goal of 50 quilted tote bags by December for the Northern Virginia Nursing Students.  We handed out about 12 kits at the Annapolis Quilt Guild meeting the beginning of the month and hope to hand out more next month.

Delivery and Next Workshop!

We delivered 16 kids quilts and 4 pillowcases to the Chrysalis House near Annapolis yesterday. I met one of the Day Care Coordinators who was excited to receive the quilts. Praying these items will comfort a child in need of a hug (and their mothers too)!!  Chrysalis House is a drug and alcohol treatment center for women and their children.

Next Workshop is Saturday, September 21st from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at BACC, room 223.  We will be making Christmas preemie quilts and continue to make bags for the nursing students in Virginia.  We found a new pattern to make drawstring tote bags for boys. Kits will be provided for bags and quilts. Please bring your sewing machine, supplies and a lunch.  All skill levels are welcome!  Instructions to make quilts and bags are always warmly provided.  Hope to see you there!

August Workshop 2013/Quilts from Southern Maryland

It was a small but mighty workshop this past Saturday.  Deborah and Melinda helped make tote bags. Deborah brought in two finished preemie quilts from our kits, Nanci brought in two finished quilts from donated fabric and a quilted tote bag, and Susan dropped off donated fabric, quilt tops and quilting magazines for inspiration.

We sure missed some of our regulars but know during the summer months it can be hard to make it out on a Saturday. Hope to see all of you next month!

Deborah with her finished projects!!

Joan V. from Southern Maryland also sent us these bright and cheerful quilts.  Thanks Joan!!
