November Workshop and Last Delivery of the Year!

November workshop was a mix of finishing up quilts and starting a few new ones. Thank you Eileen, Katie, Tamie, Benay and Rebecca for coming out and helping us get ready for our big delivery!

Final Delivery of the Year!!!

Tamie, Benay, Debbie and I delivered 70 quilts and 11 pillowcases to Walk the Walk Foundation's Walk of Christmas today. We drove up to their warehouse in Glen Burnie and got a tour and explanation of how they operate from David Mitchell, Walk the Walk's founder. It was encouraging to hear and see all the things people donate to make this ministry possible including the warehouse they use to prepare the gifts to deliver to the kids. One of the unique things they do is give each family a disposable camera to take pictures on Christmas morning. Walk the Walk then develops the pictures and sends them to the people who sponsor the kids. We saw lots of bikes, toys and battery operated kids cars. They also include books and Bibles with the gifts. Thank you to everyone who helped bring quilts to kids this Christmas!!

New Home Schooler's Workshop

We have a new home schoolers workshop which started up on November 6th. This workshop will meet monthly on the first Friday of every month.

Local home schoolers gathered at BACC to learn how to sew pillowcases for kids in need! Maddie, Katie, Katherine, Aryanna, Deborah, Sarah and Matthew set up their machines and were hard at work all morning. It always warms my heart to see young people sewing for a good cause and learning a great skill!! Great job kiddos!!

October Happenings!

Workshop!

October 17th was our 3rd Saturday workshop and we worked on a group project. We put together Crazy Shortcut Quilt blocks using the quilt-as-you-go method and using our special stitches on our machines! Jean and Leah joined our group for the first time today! It was great to meet you!! Tamie, Benay, Maricela, Melinda, Zoe and Deborah were there also working on the blocks! Rebecca stopped by and dropped off some quilts she had quilted on her long arm! Thank you ladies for making this a fun and very productive day!!

Anne Arundel County Auxiliary Reception

On October 20th, the AAMC Auxilary held a reception to thank all handy crafters for the crafts made and donated to the hospital. We were able to hear and see what other hand crafters are doing to bring a ray of sunshine into the lives of those who visit the hospital for various reasons.
I know some of you couldn't make it today but know that you are very much appreciated for all you do to comfort kids!!

Trunk or Treat at Bay Area CC

On October 30th, Tamie and I thought it would be fun to have a Quilts for Kids trunk to let more people know about us. We used the recent quilts that were turned in (I hadn't washed them yet) and displayed them on my car. We also set up a little game so the kids could toss a fabric beanbag into a hole. The kids loved the game and several asked about the quilts.

Quilts Turned in!

We had 35 quilts turned in this month!!  Is that a record?!!  Woot Woot!!

Delivery and Workshop Photos

Tamie, Melinda and I went to the AAMC to deliver quilts yesterday! 30 quilts were delivered to the Pediatric's emergency room and 27 preemie quilts to the AAMC Auxilary for the NICU! This is an awesome number of quilts for us to deliver at one time!! Thank you to everyone who has contributed by donating fabric, cutting fabric for kits, and making the quilts! You all play a huge part in making these deliveries happen! Thank you for your big hearts!!!

Vicky Z. from Crofton donated 24 1/2 lbs of fabric this month to quilts for kids. Thanks Vicky for sharing your stash!! Here is some of the yardage she donated.

Please bring your sewing machine and sewing supplies if you plan on sewing. We also love to chat and visit (and maybe learn a tip or two)! Hope to see you Saturday!!

Last month we had six completed quilts and two quilt tops turned in plus several quilts that are ready to bind. Thanks Carolyn (who had a finished quilt in our storage closet) Chiara, Eileen, Ellen, Rebecca and Wendy!!

Wendy is new to the group. She heard that we needed fabric cut to make kits and she totally blessed us yesterday by cutting for 3 hours!!! Kits were being taken as fast as she was cutting! We sure kept her busy! Thanks Wendy!

May Workshop

I finally got the photos off my phone from the workshop a couple weeks ago. For the few of us that were there we had a lot of quilts turned in and many ready to be finished!!

Rebecca is such a blessing to us!! She is our long arm quilter who does beautiful work quilting four to five quilts a month to be donated to kids in need.

Tamie is cutting fabric to put into kits.  Each step in the quilting process is such a big task.  I'm so thankful for these ladies!!

Zoe joined us this month to learn how to put a quilt top together. Eileen is sewing a preemie quilt that will be delivered to AAMC this week!

Ellen is using her 2 1/2" cutting tool to cut binding to put on the quilts Rebecca has quilted.

Here is our small but mighty group working at different stations getting quilts finished.

Here are some of the quilts that were completed and turned in! Some of these will be going to the Chrysalis House this month!

Carla is a long distance, forever member of our group. Here she is with a completed quilt to be sent to QFK headquarters!

They also mentor youth, help people with drug addiction and provide support for individuals and families in need. We got to hand deliver the quilts to Larry, who runs We Care and Friends! We are hoping the quilts will brighten a child's day as he/she receives it! Thank you to all the quilters who put so much time and effort into making these beautiful quilts!!! Great job!!!

February 2015 Workshop

Next Workshop is Saturday, February 21st at BACC from 10:30 to 1:30 pm in room 235. I will be demonstrating how to machine quilt and bind a quilt top. I will have a few blocks to practice on or you can bring something you are working on to finish. It is most helpful, but not necessary, if your machine has a walking foot or a darning foot and the feed dogs can drop. (I will talk more about this on Saturday). We will also have kits available to work on, if you would like to do that instead.

Please bring your sewing machine, sewing supplies and a lunch (optional). I'll bring some fruit and bagels. Hope to see you there!!
