We had a great workshop today and welcomed two beginner quilters - 12 year old twins! We also had three of our regular preteen quilters working on their quilts plus Ellen and Tamie sewed labels and put kits together. A young man delivered four quilts from Rebecca and Carla dropped off 25 quilts from the Annapolis Quilt Guild. We hope to make a couple deliveries in January to the Anne Arundel Medical Center Pediatrics and NICU as well as to a local women's safe house. Next workshop is January 19th!

We had eight ladies on Saturday with a wide spectrum of skill levels.  What a great chance to learn as well as share what we know!! There were a few ladies who brought in quilts already made. Thank you Melinda, Roberta and Nancy!! We had a free motion quilting demonstration plus we all were either putting together kits or starting a quilt.  Two ladies are not shown here but we greatly appreciate their participation!!  Thank you Tamie and Rebecca!!! Next month we will have a Show and Tell in addition to another demonstration on how to bind a quilt!

Our quilt stock is piling up so we would like to make a delivery before Christmas! We'll let you know when we decide on a date.

Teen Boy Quilts from the Annapolis Quilt Guild!!!

The Annapolis Quilt Guild donated 16 teen boy quilts to Annapolis Quilts for Kids!!  The theme of the quilts are nature, hunting, fishing, space, bikers, dinosaurs, sailboats, cowboy and more!  Sixteen boys are going to be thrilled to receive these quilts!  Thank you Annapolis Quilt Guild!!!

Delivery to the Ronald McDonald House in DC!

Annapolis Quilts for Kids delivered 28 quilts to the Ronald McDonald House in Washington DC on Monday, June 11th!!
When Carla, Tamie, Nanci (welcome back Nanci) and I arrived at the House we took a few pictures (see below) and then went into the beautiful, brand new building.  (It looks a lot like the Annapolis Lighthouse homeless prevention center).  We found out that the House is completely full with residents but none of the children were there because, unfortunately, they were all in the hospital. The receptionist was gracious enough to give us a tour and she told us the quilts would not only be going to the children at this facility but also to another Ronald McDonald house that caters to NICU babies and their families.

Making a Four Patch Quilt

"Make It and Love It" has a post about Quilts for Kids and gives instructions on how to make a four-patch quilt. Ashley shows you what is provided in your kit (we have pre-cut everything for you) and how to put the quilt together.  Click on more links in the article and see how to machine quilt and bind (I had to take a class to learn how to do this so these instructions are great for those of you who are struggling in this area!!)

Also, read the comments below the post and you'll find thank you letters from those whose children have received the quilts!

Next kit making workshop and quilt delivery!

We had a great class on Saturday!  There were two of us and a very teachable and mature 11 year old who wants to make quilts for those in need.  Amazing!!  I remembered to bring my camera but did I take pictures  . . . NO!!  Hopefully next time!

Our next kit making workshop is Tues, Feb 28th from 10am to 1pm at BACC room 223.  Please bring your cutting tools if you would like to make kits. If you want to sew you are welcome to do so as well.

We are going to make a quilt delivery to Anne Arundel Medical Clinic's Pediatric unit immediately following the Feb. 28th workshop.  Anyone is welcome to join us but we probably won't be seeing any children only dropping off quilts.  I'm hoping to at least take a peak at the Pediatric floor.  I hear it is colorfully decorated and kid friendly.

Quilts for Kids, Inc transforms discontinued designer fabrics into quilts that comfort children with cancer, AIDS, and other life-threatening illnesses as well as battered and abused children. The Annapolis Chapter serves the greater Annapolis, Baltimore, and Washington DC areas.

We will be meeting monthly to sew quilts and make kits.  We are always in need of help.  You don't have to sew to volunteer.  We need volunteers to cut and sort fabric. Looking to get rid of unwanted fabric? Don't throw it away!!  We take fabric donations as well.  Please contact annapolisqfk@gmail.com if you would like to contribute.
